(9839) Crabbegat is an asteroid of the inner main belt , which was discovered on February 11, 1988 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809). The asteroid had already been sighted on September 5, 1978 under the provisional designation 1978 RN 4 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj .

(9839) Crabbegat was named on November 20, 2002 after the small, idyllic street Chemin du Crabbegat / Crabbegatweg , which is located in Uccle / Ukkel in the Brussels-Capital Region at the Parc de Wolvendael / Wolvendael Park and near the Royal Observatory of Belgium is located.
