Life

Peralta made her first big appearance in her hometown of Mexico City in 1860 at the age of 15. In 1861 she traveled to Spain with her father , where she performed at the Teatro Real in Madrid . On May 23, 1862 she made her debut in the world-famous Milan Opera House La Scala . After a series of appearances in large parts of Europe , she traveled back to Mexico in 1865 via New York and Havana , where she also performed.

In 1879, Peralta's career fell into a serious crisis because the audience resented her love affair with her sponsor and employer, Julián Montiel y Duarte.

In 1883 she tried a comeback and made a tour of northwest Mexico. After the last appearance of her life in La Paz , Baja California Sur , she arrived in Mazatlán on August 22, 1883 with a troupe of about 80 people. A performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Il trovatore was planned for August 23, 1883 , but it had to be canceled because of the spread of yellow fever . On August 24, Peralta completed a rehearsal with tenor Fausto Belloti and concertmaster Chávez Aparicio, both of whom had died the next morning. Ángela Peralta died on August 30, 1883 in room number 10 of the Iturbide Hotel in Mazatlán city center. It is located on one side of the Teatro Rubio , which was designated as the venue for her performance and which was renamed in 1943 in her memory. Only six people in the concert group survived the infectious disease .

The remains of Ángela Peralta were first buried in a cemetery in Mazatlán and transferred to the Panteón Civil de Dolores in Mexico City on April 11, 1937 .
