Storforsen

Älvsbyn is a municipality ( Swedish : kommun ) in the northern Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Norrbotten .

geography

Älvsbyn municipality extends for about 60 kilometers along the Piteälven river . The area on both sides of the river valley is hilly and rich in lakes. The main town of the municipality is Älvsbyn . Other localities are Korsträsk , Vidsel , Vistheden and other smaller villages.

economy

Agriculture and especially forestry are of some importance in the community. In the main town of the municipality there are two larger industrial companies, AB Älvsbyhus and Polarbageriet AB. There is a military test site near Vidsel . Tourism has also grown in importance in recent years. A popular destination is the Storforsen nature reserve (rapids) on the course of the Piteälven west of Vidsel.
