Ólafur Björnsson (born August 14, 1992 ) is an Icelandic ice hockey player who has been under contract with UMFK Esja in the Icelandic ice hockey league since 2014 .

Career

Ólafur Björnsson began his career as a hockey player with Ísknattleiksfélagið Björninn . In 2010 he moved to Helsingborgs HC in his Swedish hometown , for which he was on the ice in the Swedish U18 and U20 youth leagues. In the 2011/12 season he returned to Iceland and played there for his home club Ísknattleiksfélagið Björninn, with whom he won the Icelandic national championship in 2012. Since Björninn has made a second team in the league with Hunar , he has also played there in addition to his commitment for the first team. He has been on the ice for UMFK Esja since 2014 .

International

Ólafur Björnsson played for Iceland as a teenager. He participated in Division III of the U-18 World Championships in 2008 and 2009 and Division II of the U-18 World Cup in 2010 , when he was named the best player of his team, as well as the Division II tournament of the U-20 World Cup 2011 and the Division III tournaments of the U-20 World Championships in 2010 and 2012 , when he was not only recognized as the best player of his team, but also the best scorer (10 points, together with New Zealander Remy Sandoy ) and preparer (6 Assists) of the tournament.

For the men's national team , Ólafur Björnsson played in Division II at the 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 and 2017 World Championships . He also represented his colors in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Pyeongchang 2018 .
