(100936) Mekong is an asteroid located in the inner main belt . It was discovered on June 26, 1998 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809).
The mean distance from the sun ( major semi-axis ), eccentricity and inclination of the orbit plane of (100936) Mekong are within the respective limit values defined for the Nysa group, a group of asteroids named after (44) Nysa (also called the Hertha family, after (135) Hertha ).
(100936) Mekong was on March 12, 2012 after the Southeast Asian river Mekong named the six countries are crossed.
