(133250) Rubik is an asteroid of the central main belt that was discovered on September 5, 2003 by the Hungarian amateur astronomer Krisztián Sárneczky and the Hungarian astronomer Brigitta Sipőcz at the Piszkéstető observatory ( IAU code 561) in the northern Hungarian Mátra Mountains on behalf of the Budapest Konkoly- Observatory was discovered. With an absolute brightness of 19.5 mag, it was found during a search for the Cubewano (307616) 2003 QW 90 .

The track from (133250) Rubik was secured in 2006 so that numbering could be assigned. The asteroid was named on May 20, 2008 after the Hungarian architect Ernő Rubik , the inventor of the Rubik's Cube . The RK from the provisional name of the asteroid, 2003 RK 8 , offered itself for this naming.
