(17466) Vargasllosa is an asteroid of the main inner belt that was discovered on November 15, 1990 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809).
The asteroid was named after the Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa on May 14, 2014 . His novel “ The Green House ” ( La casa verde ) from 1966 and his receipt of the Nobel Prize for Literature 2010 “for his cartography of power structures and sharp-edged images of individual resistance, turmoil and defeat” are highlighted in the dedication .
