(202784) Gangkeda is an asteroid of the outer main belt , which on 29 February 2008 at the Xuyi station of the Purple Mountain Observatory ( IAU code D29) in the county Xuyi in the Chinese province of Jiangsu was discovered. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had already been made in November 2006 (2006 VY 110 ) at the Steward Observatory's outstation on Kitt Peak .

(202784) Gangkeda was named on February 18, 2011 after the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology , which was founded in 1991 . Gangkeda is the Chinese abbreviation for university. The name was given on the 20th anniversary of the foundation. A designation certificate was presented to the university on April 8, 2011.
