(2543) Machado ( 1980 LJ ; 1943 UB ; 1948 QP ; 1959 SL ; 1976 YQ 6 ; 1981 RN 1 ) is an approximately 14 kilometers large asteroid of the outer main belt that was discovered on June 1, 1980 by the Belgian astronomer Henri Debehogne on La- Silla observatory where La Silla was discovered in La Higuera in Chile ( IAU code 809).
designation
(2543) Machado was named after the astronomer Luiz Eduardo da Silva Machado (? –1992) who was director of the Valongo observatory and professor at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro . He co-founded the asteroid discovery program at the European Southern Observatory (IAU code 262).
