(5592) Oshima is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt discovered on November 14, 1990 by the Japanese astronomers Kenzō Suzuki and Takeshi Urata at the Toyota Observatory ( IAU code 881) in Japan. The asteroid had already been sighted in September 1955 under the provisional designation 1955 RA at the Goethe Link Observatory in Brooklyn in the US state of Indiana .

The asteroid belongs to the Veritas family, a group of asteroids named after (490) Veritas and probably formed 8.3 (± 0.5) million years ago when an asteroid with a diameter of 150 km broke apart.

The asteroid was named after the Japanese astronomer Yoshiaki Ōshima (* 1952).
