(5835) Mainfranken is an asteroid in the outer main belt that was discovered by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen on September 21, 1992 at the Tautenburg observatory ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .
The asteroid got its name from the Main Franconia region in the far northwest of Bavaria . It is located in the administrative district of Lower Franconia .
