(6973) Karajan is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 27 April 1992 by the Japanese astronomer Seiji Ueda and Hiroshi Kaneda at the observatory in Kushiro ( Observatories code was discovered 399).
The asteroid was named on September 26, 2007 after the Austrian conductor Herbert von Karajan (1908–1989), who was chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic for 35 years .
