(9340) Williamholden is an asteroid of the main outer belt that was discovered by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst on June 6, 1991 at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile ( IAU code 809).

The asteroid belongs to the Themis family, a group of asteroids named after (24) Themis .

(9340) William Holden was on 20 November 2002 after the US American film actor William Holden named (1918-1981) that stands out for his starring role in The Bridge on the River Kwai was known and in 1954 the Oscar for best actor for the film Stalag 17 won .
