1-Up Studio , formerly Brownie Brown ( Jap.ブラウニーブラウンBuraunī Buraun ) is a video game - developers based in Tokyo . The company is a subsidiary of Nintendo , making it one of Nintendo's 16 external first-party development studios.
In February 2013, the studio previously known as Brownie Brown was renamed and restructured as 1-UP Studio . According to the studio website, the goal is a stronger cooperation with Nintendo.
