- The reformer Publius Mucius Scaevola becomes consul of the Roman Republic .
- Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus is elected Roman tribune . Due to social problems in Rome, he presents an agrarian reform that is supposed to take land from the senators . The core of the reform is the Lex Sempronia agraria .
- Rome becomes the first city with a million inhabitants.
- Attalus III. bequeaths the Pergamene Empire to the Romans .
- The destruction of the city of Numantia after a year-long siege by the Romans means the final victory over the Celtiberians in the Spanish War . This means that the Romans have all of Spain under their control, with the exception of the north.
