The 2,2-dichloropropionic acid ( 2.2-DPA for short ) is an organic - chemical compound from the group of chlorinated carboxylic acids . In her case, the two hydrogen atoms on the α-C atom of propionic acid are replaced by chlorine atoms.

use

2,2-DPA was approved as a herbicide in Germany until 1994. It has a selective effect and was mainly used against couch grass, grasses in the forest, reeds , cane grass , water swaths , cattails , sedges and rushes.

In 2002, the EU Commission decided not to include Dalapon in the list of permitted active ingredients in pesticides . In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, no pesticides with this active ingredient are permitted.
