The 336th Infantry Division was a major military unit of the German Wehrmacht , which was set up in Bielefeld in December 1940 from Wehrkreis VI (Westphalia, Hanover and the Rhine Province) and was active until May 1944.

Division history

The 336th Infantry Division was a division of the 14th  wave , which was set up in Bielefeld in military district VI . Before she was relocated to the Eastern Front in May 1942, she carried out occupation and security tasks in occupied France and Belgium.

In June 1942, the division belonged to the 6th Army of Army Group B and fought at different locations such as Kharkov , Rossosh and on Tschir , and it was involved in numerous skirmishes on the Donbogen . For the operation Hubertus the Sturmpioniere of PiBtl were. 336 withdrew from the 336th Infantry Division and deployed to the Stalingrad industrial complexes, where they were largely destroyed.

From January to April 1943 the division was deployed in the Donets area and at the Mius position. After she was active in the Melitopol area until October 1943 , she was transferred to the Crimea with the 17th Army in autumn . In November 1943, the division was reinforced with personnel from the disbanded 15th Air Force Field Division . In May 1944, the Sevastopol division was destroyed during the Battle of the Crimea . Few survivors were able to be evacuated from the Crimea and later formed part of the personnel of the newly established Grenadier Regiment 685, which was subordinated to the 294th Infantry Division .
