- Lucius Antistius Vetus holds the consulate together with Emperor Nero . After his appointment as Legatus , Gnaeus Cornelius Lentulus Gaetulicus becomes a suffect consul .
- February: According to Tacitus , Nero has his half-brother Britannicus poisoned at a feast shortly before he comes of age. Britannicus may also fall victim to an epileptic seizure.
