The 7th arrondissement is one of the nine arrondissements of Lyon (municipality).
The arrondissement is located in the southeast of the urban area of Lyon. It is bounded to the west by the Rhone . In the north it borders on the 3rd arrondissement , in the east on the 8th arrondissement , in the southeast on Saint-Fons , in the southwest on Pierre-Bénite and in the west on Oullins and La Mulatière .
history
The law of March 8, 1912 divided the 3rd arrondissement into two parts and the south became the 7th arrondissement. Today's borders were set by the ordinance of February 19, 1959, when the 8th arrondissement was built in the eastern part .
In the past, the left bank of the Rhône was repeatedly hit by floods. That only came to an end after the catastrophic flood of 1852, because then the dikes and banks were expanded.
geography
The 7th arrondissement covers an area of 9.75 km².
The arrondissement is the largest in Lyons in terms of area and lies in the almost flat river basin of the Rhône. It includes cantons IX and X and parts of the 1st and 3rd electoral districts ( French circonscription ).
