The A483 road ( English for road A483 ) is an almost continuously (except for the section from Swansea to the A48 road ) designated as the primary route in Wales and England. It is also known as Swansea to Manchester Trunk Road , although it now ends in Chester . Between junction 47 and the end of the motorway in Pont Abraham, the road is interrupted by the M4 motorway . From the end of the motorway onwards, it is consistently designated as a primary route. It runs through Tycroes and Ammanford ( Rhydaman in Welsh ) to Llandeilo . There it crosses the A40 road . It now follows the Afon Tywi upstream to Llandovery together with the A40 , separates from the A40 and leads via Llanwrtyd Wells to Beulah. There she takes a sharp turn to the east and performs Garth to Builth Wells ( Welsh Llanfair-ym-Muallt ). Here it crosses the A470 road , turns north again and leads via Llandrindod Wells and Crossgates , where the A44 road crosses , to Newtown ( Welsh Y Drenewydd ), which is bypassed together with the A489 road . The A483 follows the course of the Severn to Welshpool ( Welsh Y Trallwyng ), crosses the A458 road and continues in a north-northeast direction to Oswestry , which is bypassed together with the A5 road to the east. The next section is formed together with the A5 until it branches off to the west. The A483 keeps the previous direction and becomes four lanes from Ruabon ( Welsh Rhiwabon ). It passes Wrexham ( Welsh Wrecsam ) in the west, crosses the A55 road south of Chester, where the four-lane expansion ends, and continues into the center of Chester.
