A War Against You -

A War Against You is the fifth studio album of American Melodic hardcore - band Ignite . It was released on January 8, 2016 via Century Media and brought the band the first chart position of their career.

Emergence

The album was released almost ten years after the previous album Our Darkest Days . According to bassist Brett Rasmussen, Ignite toured around three and a half years after it was released. In addition, singer Zoltán Téglás replaced Jim Lindberg as singer in the band Pennywise between 2009 and 2012 . In October 2012 Téglás got out of Pennywise again because he had to cancel several concerts due to back problems. It wasn't until 2013 that Ignite started working on a new studio album. According to Zoltán Téglás, the making of the album was a difficult birth, as Téglá's ideas about the new songs differed from those of his fellow musicians. There would have been numerous arguments in the rehearsal room.

Produced A War Against You by Cameron Webb, who among other things already for Motörhead , Megadeth and Zebrahead worked. Webb had already produced the two previous albums A Place Called Home and Our Darkest Days . The recordings for the album took place at Maple Sound Studios in Santa Ana , California . According to his own statement, Téglás had to pay $ 5,000 out of pocket so that the album could even be recorded and released. The album contains a hidden track . This is the song Where I'm From , but it contains lyrics in Hungarian .

The album was released as a regular CD and in a limited digipak with a bonus track. In addition, a box set limited to 3,000 copies worldwide was released, which contains the album as a digipak, a key ring , several pins and a poster . On December 4th, 2015 the band released the limited 7 ″ single Nothing Can Stop Me . The B-side of the single includes the songs Bleeding and U2 - cover Sunday Blood Sunday . Both songs are from the DVD Our Darkest Days Live .

According to Brett Rasmussen, the album title is an allusion to various campaigns by the federal government of the United States . As examples, Rasmussen named the War on Drugs ("War on Drugs ") or the War on Terror ("War on Terrorism "). In addition, the album title would deal with the mass media , which has changed with the advent of social media like Facebook , Twitter and Instagram and has a great impact on people. In Nothing Can Stop Me is about a friend of the band, which against a cancer fights. Oh No Not Again is an anti-war song.

“Why didn't anyone learn from the first two world wars ? War doesn't solve problems that couldn't be more obvious. Still, the world is on fire again and people don't know where to go. The solution cannot be to uproot all these people, tear up families and shift the problem to other countries that do not know what to do with them. "

- Zoltán Téglás

The song Alive deals with the life story of his paternal grandfather. In World War II, he fled with his family in a horse-drawn cart in front of the Red Army of the Soviet Union . They were persecuted and heard people being shot behind them. The family managed to escape to Los Angeles via Bremerhaven . Other topics on the album are bullying , environmental protection , politics and racism .
