Abdul Razak (born November 11, 1992 in Abidjan ) is an Ivorian football player . Since 2012 he has also been playing for the national team of his home country.

Career

youth

Razak was born in Abidjan and played for the youth section of the local ASEC Mimosas . The club is considered a stepping stone to Europe for talented players, so national idols such as Didier Drogba or the brothers Kolo and Yaya Touré , with whom he would later play in a team in Manchester , come from its youth department . First, however, Razak piqued the interest of Crystal Palace . Neil Warnock , head coach of Crystal Palace from 2007 to 2010, said in his column in the Independent :

Razak came to London as a 15-year-old without a passport and was discovered by scouts at a selection tournament. As a result, the association took care of Razak, provided him with money, accommodation and obtained a residence permit from the London authorities. Warnock wrote that he has seldom seen such a talented football player. One day, however, Razak simply disappeared - until Warnock saw him play for the first division Manchester City a few months later.

Manchester City

Since July 2010 Razak played at Manchester City in the youth department. After he was not used for six months, he was first used in the reserve team in February 2011 and, surprisingly, three days later in the first team. He made this Premier League debut against West Bromwich Albion when he was substituted on a few minutes before the end of the game. In the following period he remained in the reserve team for the time being.

In order to give him further match practice, the Citizens awarded Razak to Portsmouth FC in October 2012 . Shortly before the loan deal, the Ivorian made two more appearances in the first team in the League Cup , in connection with which Roberto Mancini , head coach of the Citizens , praised Razak's talent and even compared him with the Ghanaian midfielder of Chelsea FC , Michael Essien . After just a month in Portsmouth, Razak returned to Manchester to go on loan in Brighton in February 2012 . After six appearances there and another short loan at Charlton Athletic , he found himself again on the bench in Manchester City from October 2012 and came to two more Premier League appearances in the following period of the season. Before the loan in Charlton, Razak won the FA Community Shield against Chelsea in August 2012 .

Short stays in England, Russia and Greece

On September 2, 2013 Razak was loaned to the Russian first division club Anzhi Makhachkala until the end of the season. With his first league appearance at the end of September, he was firmly committed to the Russian club due to a contractual clause. Under coach Gadži Gadžiev , he fluctuated between the starting eleven and the bench until the end of the year, until the beginning of the winter break in early September, he played seven games in the Premjer league.

On January 30, 2014, Razak was loaned to West Ham United until the end of the season. Without playing in the English championship, he returned to Russia after the loan period ended at the end of March. There he remained without playing until the summer, after which he joined OFI Crete in the Greek Super League . By the end of the year he played nine league games for the club in relegation battle, before he moved again and returned to England. For the Doncaster Rovers he played in the third-rate Football League One , the second half of the 2014/15 season , which the relegated second division ended in 13th place in the table.

Settled in Sweden

Initially, Razak was without a club from summer 2015, before signing a contract with AFC United at the end of the winter changeover period after trial training at various Swedish clubs, among others . After an injury at the beginning of the season slowed him down, he convinced the then second division side in the second half of the season and played twelve games of the season. At the end of the season he rose with the club for the first time in the club's history in the Allsvenskan . In January, the two-time European Cup winner IFK Göteborg recruited him , with whom he signed a three-year contract. There he came only irregularly under coach Jörgen Lennartsson , so that the club loaned him to his former club, which has now been renamed AFC Eskilstuna, from mid-July of that year.

National team

In November 2012, Razak made his national senior team debut in a friendly against Austria . After two more friendly matches against Russia and Egypt, he is part of the Ivory Coast squad at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa .
