Achim Fiedler

Achim Fiedler (* 1965 in Stuttgart ) is a German conductor , violinist and music teacher .

Live and act

Fiedler received his first piano lessons at the age of 6 and violin lessons shortly afterwards. He studied violin with Saschko Gawrilow and chamber music at the Cologne University of Music and at the Guildhall School London . He then completed conducting studies in Milan and at the Stuttgart University of Music . After a masterclass in Tanglewood with Seiji Ozawa and assistants with Carlo Maria Giulini and Bernard Haitink , he won the conducting competitions in Katowice (1995, 3rd prize, prize for the best interpretation of a Polish work) and Cadaqués (1996, 1st prize) . In 1997 he received the Herbert von Karajan scholarship.

From 1998 to 2012 he was artistic director of the Festival Strings Lucerne and toured 30 countries with this chamber orchestra. From 2006 to 2013 he was chief conductor of the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra . As a guest conductor, he has led over 40 orchestras at home and abroad - a. a. Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden , Vienna Chamber Orchestra , Orquesta de Sevilla, Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana Lugano and the Orchester Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo.

From 2004 to 2008 Fiedler was head of the conductor training at the Lucerne School of Music . He also conducted rehearsals and concerts at the Detmold and Essen music academies , at Pomona College (USA), at the Leopold Mozart Center of the University of Augsburg and at the Orchesterzentrum NRW Dortmund .

He has been leading the Dortmund Youth Orchestra since 2012 .

In 2017, Fiedler took over the NRW Children's Orchestra for a work and concert phase and performed with this orchestra in several cities in NRW.

Publications

Fiedler has been recording sound carriers for OehmsClassics at the Strings Lucerne Festival since 2003 , including recordings by Johann Sebastian Bach , Franz Schubert , Dmitri Schostakowitsch , Benjamin Britten and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy . Recordings with Fiedler also appeared on Sony Classical and were awarded the Echo Klassik .
