The Acopía district is located in the Acomayo province of the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on February 23, 1861. It has an area of ​​71.4 km². The 2017 census counted 2953 residents. In 1993, the population in 3079 was, in 2007, at 2557. The district administration is in at an altitude of 3713  m nearby village of Acopia with 1,585 inhabitants (2017). Acopía is 25 km southeast of the provincial capital Acomayo .

Geographical location

The Acopía district is located in the Andean highlands in the southeast of the Acomayo province. It includes the southern and eastern shores of the Laguna Pomacanchi . In the center of the district is the lake Laguna Acopía. The Río Vilcanota flows east of the district to the north.

The Acopia district is bordered to the west by the district Pomacanchi , on the north by the district Sangarará , on the east by the district Checacupe ( province Canchis ) and in the south by the district Mosoc Llacta .
