Adalbert Wilhelm Georg Ludwig (born July 19, 1828 in Munich , † September 21, 1875 in Nymphenburg ) was a Prince of Bavaria and Hereditary Prince of Greece.

Life

Adalbert was a son of King Ludwig I of Bavaria and Queen Therese of Bavaria .

On the occasion of his birth, his father had the family thaler “Blessing of Heaven” minted in 1828, which shows Queen Therese's head in the middle and medallions of her five children with the dates of their birth on the outside.

Since his brother King Otto of Greece was childless, the right of succession to the throne was extended to Adalbert in 1844, so that he was heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Greece from then until 1862.

On August 25, 1856, Prince Adalbert married Amalia von Bourbón (* 1834), Infanta of Spain, daughter of Franz de Paula de Bourbón , Duke of Cádiz and his wife Luisa Carlota of Naples-Sicily in Madrid . The couple had five children together.

Adalbert Wilhelm died on September 21, 1875 at the age of 47 in Nymphenburg Palace of an illness that lasted only a few days; the doctors attributed his death to cardiac muscle paralysis. He was buried in the Michaeliskirche in Munich .

In Munich, Adalbertstrasse was named after him.
