Adam David Henley (born June 14, 1994 in Knoxville , Tennessee , United States ) is a Welsh football player . The 1.78 meter tall, usable on both sides, full-back is a two-time Welsh national team and was most recently at English fourth division Bradford City under contract.
Athletic career
Henley's family moved from Tennessee to Chorley in northern England when he was two years old . He attended Clayton-le-Woods Church of England Primary School and St Michael's High School . Before joining the Blackburn Rovers youth academy , he played at Manchester United for some time in his youth .
Henley came to his first Premier League appearance on November 19, 2011 at the age of 17 and played a total of seven games in the season after which the Rovers were relegated. In the next six second division seasons, in which the team occupied positions 17, 8, 9, 15 and 22, he made 73 league appearances. He has also played twelve FA Cup games so far , with the Rovers failing in the quarter-finals in 2012/13 and 2014/15.
On January 9, the US club Real Salt Lake City announced Henley's commitment.
In June 2019 he received a contract with the English fourth division club Bradford City . The club was relegated from EFL League One in the previous season . At Bradford, Henley came to 24 missions during the season before the season was canceled due to corona. At the end of the season he received no new contract offer from the club.
National team
Since his mother is Welsh, he can play internationally for Wales, but could also play for England and, because of his US father, for the USA. Henley played three times in the U-17 team in September 2010 in the first qualifying round for the U-17 European Football Championship 2011 , but lost all three games with the team and was eliminated.
In the spring of 2011, as a 16-year-old, he played three times in the U-19 team in the second qualifying round for the 2011 U-19 European Football Championship , in which Wales lost to Serbia . In September he failed with the U-19s in the first qualifying round for the U-19 European Football Championship in 2012 . In 2012 he was used in the last three qualifying games for the U-21 European Championship in 2013 . With ten points behind the group winners Czech Republic the Welsh came fourth.
In August 2015, he was nominated for two qualifying matches for the European Championship 2016 , but was not used.
It was not until November 13, 2015 that he played his first international match with the senior national team at the age of 21, after the Welsh had qualified for a European Championship finals for the first time without his involvement. In the friendly against the Netherlands , which were lost 3-2, he came on in the 66th minute for Chris Gunter , the Welshman with the most international appearances of the currently active players. He was then substituted on for the game after that, this time after 72 minutes. On May 9, 2016, he was appointed to the provisional squad for the Euro 2016, with which a training camp in Portugal began on May 23. In the end, however, he was not considered for the final squad or afterwards.
