from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adam Karl Bernhard (* 1807 ; † 1893 ) was a German organ builder who worked in Hesse in the 19th century .

Life

(Adam) Karl Bernhard was the son of Johann Hartmann Bernhard and came from a family of organ builders that worked in the Grand Duchy of Hesse until 1936 and that resulted in a total of more than 120 new buildings or modifications. Adam Karl initially worked together with his older brother Friedrich Wilhelm Bernhard (1804–1861) in his father's company in Romrod , but after his death in 1861 he went into business in Gambach with the permission of the grand ducal. There he worked as a teacher. In connection with his new organ in Wingershausen (1870 to 1872), Bernhard is described as "a man with 7 brave sons and living in modest circumstances as a school teacher". Its main competitors were the organ builders Johann Georg Förster and Wilhelm August Ratzmann . The sons Karl Theodor and Karl Rudolf Bernhard continued the Gambach company under the name Gebrüder Bernhard until the 20th century.
