He played college football for Minnesota State University, Mankato, and has been with the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League (NFL) since 2013 .

Early years

Thielen grew up in northern Minnesota and went to high school in Detroit Lakes, where he stood out in addition to football in the sports of basketball , baseball and golf . With the golf team he was able to win the state championships and is now considered the best golfer of the Vikings.

college

Thielen attended Minnesota State University, Mankato , from 2008 to 2012 and played for the Minnesota State Mavericks in the second-rate NCAA Division II .

In total, he caught 198 balls for 2,802 yards in these three years and managed 20 touchdowns .

NFL

In the NFL Draft 2013 Thielen has not been selected. He was then invited to rookie camps by the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings then signed him as a free agent . As part of the final squad reduction to 53 players, he was removed from the roster and added to the Practice Squad .

Thielen established himself with the Vikings in 2014 and was used as a wide receiver and in the special teams . He made his debut in a 34-6 win at the St. Louis Rams . In the 13th week Thielen scored his first touchdown in the NFL against the Carolina Panthers, in which he blocked an opposing punt and carried back 30 yards into the opposing end zone. For this he was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week .

Thielen made his breakthrough in the 2016 season , when he unexpectedly managed a season with almost 1,000 receiving yards. After the season, Thielen's contract ran out. The Vikings signed him again with a three-year contract worth $ 27 million.

On November 23, 2017 , he reached 1,000 captured yards in one season, which Sidney Rice did at the Vikings in 2009 . On December 19, 2017, he was nominated for the first time for the Pro Bowl , as well as the following season, in which he was second in the NFL with 105 passports caught.

In April 2019, he signed an extension of his contract with the Vikings, which runs until 2021, for a further four years for 64 million US dollars. In the 2019 season , he suffered a thigh injury in week 7 against the Detroit Lions , which he suffered from for a long time. He completely missed six games after playing 87 straight games for the Vikings. In the regular season he came to only 30 trapped passes and 418 yards and six touchdowns. In the first play-off game of the Vikings, the 26:20 victory over the New Orleans Saints in the Wild Card Round, Thielen played an important role. First he underwent a fumble early in the game , with seven trapped passes for 129 yards, including a 43-yard catch in the decisive drive of extra time, but Thielen was ultimately a key factor in the victory.
