Adolf Beiß

Adolf Beiß (born September 3, 1900 in Braunschweig ; † December 22, 1981 ibid) was a German German philologist , writer and university professor.

Life

Adolf Beiß was born in Braunschweig in 1900, where he attended the Martino-Katharineum . He then joined the Wandervogel , with whom he toured northern Germany. After studying German, Beiß worked as a teacher at the Hoffmann-von-Fallersleben School in Braunschweig from 1929 . At the time of National Socialism , Beiß was a member of the NSDAP , actively participated in the National Socialist Teachers' Association and was an author on people and race . During the Second World War he was a sergeant major in the Luftwaffe. After the end of the war in 1948 he was given a teaching position at the Braunschweig University of Education . From 1949 until his retirement in 1968 he held the chair for German language and literature and methodology of German teaching there.

In addition to his teaching activities, he headed the library of the Pedagogical University until 1968. He was the editor of the PH Braunschweig series of publications. In the early 1950s, Beiß was chairman of the Braunschweig Literary Association for four years . From the end of the 1930s he published short stories, poems and scientific papers. Many of his poems were set to music by Walter Rein and Friedrich-Wilhelm Reich.

Beiß lived in the Braunschweig district of Gliesmarode from the 1940s until his death in 1981 .
