Adolf Leopold Heinrich von Berenhorst (born August 6, 1820 in Dessau ; † April 18, 1903 there ) was a Prussian major general , ducal stable master and chamberlain and knight of the Order of St. John.

Life

origin

Adolf was a son of Georg von Berenhorst (1794-1852) and his first wife Auguste, born von Holleufer (1796-1822). His father was Anhalt-Dessau Chamberlain and Privy Cabinet Councilor as well as a knight of the order Pour le Mérite . Adolf von Berenhorst's grandfather was Georg Heinrich von Berenhorst , an illegitimate son of Prince Leopold I of Anhalt-Dessau .

Military career

Berenhorst attended high school in Dessau and received private lessons in Erfurt . After graduating, he joined the 12th Hussar Regiment of the Prussian Army as a hussar on May 10, 1838 and was transferred to the Anhalt-Dessau Fusilier Battalion as a secondary lieutenant on April 1, 1840 . On July 10, 1846 he was Premier-Lieutenant and on December 26, 1848 captain and company commander. In 1849 he fought in the first Schleswig War . After the war he came on April 10, 1852 as personal adjutant to the Duke of Anhalt Leopold IV. Friedrich . On July 18, 1860, he rose to major and became the Duke's wing adjutant. On August 19, 1865, he became a lieutenant colonel and, following the military convention with Prussia, on November 30, 1867, he was transferred to the Prussian army in his position . There he was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1868 and awarded the House Order of Albrecht the Bear on November 17, 1869 . Under awarding of the character as a major general and the Red Eagle II. Berenhorst married on November 1, 1842 in Nettelbeck near Puttlitz Amalie von Jena (1821-1905). The couple had several children:

  • Adolf (1842–1870), Prussian lieutenant, killed at St. Privat ⚭ 1868 Olga Heyn (* 1849). In 1873 she married Ewald von Hellermann († 1901), master of Klannin, and are the parents of the Prussian major general Wilhelm von Berenhorst (1869–1952).
