Air Mediterranean is a Greek airline founded in 2017 with a focus on charter and ACMI / wet lease flights . Between January and February 2018, the airline had to cease operations at short notice due to discrepancies and liquidity problems.
history
In 2015, several investors from the aviation industry considered setting up an airline to connect Athens to the Middle East and Africa .
On December 6, 2016, before the airline received its operating license, the first Boeing 737-400 was received at Athens Airport. Air Mediterranean announced on January 17, 2017 that it had successfully received its Air Operator Certificate and that it would start charter and ACMI / wet lease flights in late January 2017 . Scheduled flights should be started from the second quarter of 2017 when a second Boeing 737-400 is received.
The airline started scheduled flights on November 2, 2017 and its first destination was London Stansted . Furthermore, from the 2nd / 3rd November 2017 served Stockholm Arlanda and Baghdad .
On January 18, 2018, all flights were canceled due to disagreements among the shareholders and air traffic was suspended until further notice. In February 2018, the airline's CEO announced that there were plans to reorganize scheduled services while providing more resources for wet lease and charter operations for the summer. Since April 2018, charter and wet lease flights have been operated again after new financing was secured.
