Akira Andō ( Japanese 安藤 明 , Andō Akira ; born October 5, 1955 in Sapporo ) is a Japanese jazz and improvisation musician ( double bass , cello ) living in Germany .

Life

Andō lived in New York from 1984 to 1998, where he a. a. worked with Cecil Taylor , William Parker , Elliott Levin, and Billy Bang ; he also played in New York salsa bands. Since 1998 he has been living in Berlin as a freelance musician. Since then he has played a. a. with Thomas Borgmann and Willi Kellers in the trio Boom Box , Han Satō , Günter Sommer / Gunda Gottschalk ( Whispering Eurasia , 2010) and in the formation Takabanda (with Paul Schwingenschlögl , Jan von Klewitz , Thilo Burkard and Paolo Eleodori ), with the two albums originated. In the field of jazz, he was involved in 11 recording sessions between 1994 and 2007. The Abrasaz trio with saxophonist Han Satō and drummer Zam Johnson are among his own band projects . In 2015 he accompanied the Chilean Daniel Puente Encina on his European tour.
