Akitakata ( Japanese 安 芸 高田 市 ) is a city with around 29,000 inhabitants in Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan . A large number of traditional folk festivals have survived in the agricultural community.

history

The municipal administrative unit Akitakata was formed on March 1, 2004 from the union of the communities Hachiyo ( 八千 代 町 , -chō ), Kōda ( 甲 田 町 , -chō ), Midori ( 美 土 里 町 , -chō ), Mukaihara ( 向原 町 , -chō ) , Takamiya ( 高 宮 町 , -chō ) and Yoshida ( 吉田 町 , -chō ) of Takata County. The district was then dissolved.

traffic

Akitakata is accessible via the Chūgoku Highway , National Road 54 to Hiroshima and Matsue and National Road 433. The community is on the JR West / Geibi Line to Niimi and Miyoshi and the JR Sanko Line to Gotsu and Miyoshi.

Town twinning

In the 1930s there was a school partnership initiated by the Red Cross with the Taunusdorf Strinz-Margarethä and the Japanese community of Ikeguwa. In 1956 Ikekuwa was amalgamated with other villages to form Midori-chô (Midori City). In 2004, Midori-chô was again merged with other communities to form an administrative unit: Aki Takata-shi (Akitakata City) in Hiroshima Prefecture. Ikekuwa is only part of Akitakata's community today.
