Onomichi ( Japanese 尾道市 , - shi ) is a city in Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan .

geography

Onomichi lies east of Hiroshima and west of Fukuyama on the Seto Inland Sea .

The city of Onomichi was founded in 1898 .

Onomichi is on the San'yō Highway and the Nishiseto Highway . In addition, the city is located on National Road 2 to Osaka and Kitakyūshū and National Roads 184, 317 and 486. The Onomichi Bridge and the parallel Shin-Onomichi Bridge belonging to the Nishiseto Highway connect the central area of the town with the offshore island of Mukaijima. Shin-Onomichi Station is on the JR West San'yō Shinkansen line to Tokyo and Hakata and on the JR San'yō Main Line to Kobe and Kitakyushu.

Onomichi borders on Fukuyama , Mihara and Fuchū .
