Fuchū ( jap. 府中町 , Fuchū- chō ) is a district town (-chō) in circles (- gun ) Aki the western Japanese prefecture of Hiroshima . With over 50,000 inhabitants, the eastern suburb of the city (- shi ) Hiroshima is one of the largest municipalities in the country. Since 1975, when neighboring parts of Aki County were incorporated into the city of Hiroshima, the city of Fuchū has been an exclave of Aki County in the city of Hiroshima and has been enclosed by the (- ku ) East , South and Aki districts since 1980 .

To clearly distinguish between (Bingo) Fuchū and (Musashi-) Fuchū (both today, however, Fuchū (-shi) ), the city is sometimes also called Aki-Fuchū ( 安 芸 府中 ).

geography

Fuchū is located on the left bank above the mouth of the Enkōgawa ( 猿猴 川 ), the easternmost arm of the Ōtadeltas , into which the 6.6 km long Fuchū-Ōkawa ( 府中 大川 ) flows. The 424 m high Takaoyama ( 高 尾 山 ) lies on the northern boundary of the municipality . Below is the "Forest Park Mikumari Gorge" (Mikumari-kyō shinrin kōen) .

history

The name of the city comes from the fact that in ancient times the administrative seat, Fuchū , of the province of Aki was in this area . With the introduction of the prussified municipal ordinances of 1888 and the associated territorial reform, the village of Fuchū ( 府中 村 ), which became a city in 1937 , was created here in Aki County of Hiroshima Prefecture in 1889 .

While other eastern suburbs of the city of Hiroshima were incorporated in the post-war period, Fuchū remained independent, although Hiroshima had offered a merger in 1970. An attempt at incorporation was abandoned in the 2000s. In a referendum in 2002, 49.9% of those who voted were in favor of incorporation, 28.5% in favor of Fuchū itself becoming a district-free city, and 21.6% for its continued existence as a district-owned city. A joint commission for a merger ( gappei kyōgikai ) was set up following a direct submission by over 5,000 citizens in 2003 , but this did not come to a conclusion and was dissolved again in December 2004 following resolutions by both municipal parliaments . Among other things, due to the suburban / urban population structure and the comparatively good budget situation (see section Economy ), the incorporation pressure for Fuchū is lower than in many other Japanese communities.

education

The municipal administration operates five elementary schools and two middle schools in Fuchū, the prefecture administration has a high school, the Aki-Fuchō-Oberschule ( Hiroshima kenritsu Aki-Fuchū kōtō gakkō , 広 島 県 立 安 芸 府中 高等学校 ) in the eastern district of Yamada.

economy

Mazda headquarters

The headquarters of Matsuda KK (English Mazda Motor Corp.) is located in Fuchū , the factory of Tōyō Kōgyō opened here in 1930 . Associated with the group are located in Fuchū, among other things, the Mazda Hospital (Matsuda byōin) and the supplier Delta Kōgyō.

The “gross municipal product” of Fuchū was around 197 billion yen in the 2008 fiscal year . Of the 24,210 employees in fiscal year 2010, 70.7% were employed in the service sector and 24.8% in the secondary sector.

traffic

Mukainada station is located in the south of Fuchū on the San'yō main line of the western Japanese JR ( JR Nishi-Nihon ) . The route of the San'yō Shinkansen runs further north through the place.

Line No. 2 of the Hiroshima motorway with the Fuchū junction runs near the north-western city limits. There are no national roads in Fuchū today ; the national road 2 followed earlier the Ōzu-dōri ( 大洲 通 り ; today prefecture road 164 of Hiroshima) and led through Fuchū, but now runs south of it.
