Akola ( Marathi : अकोला , Akolā ) is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra with about 430,000 inhabitants (2011 census). It is the administrative seat of Akola District and is located approximately 600 kilometers east of Mumbai and 250 kilometers west of Nagpur .

There is a railway connection to the east, which is divided into the direction of Nagpur and towards Warangal , as well as a railway connection to the west, which leads to Nashik . On June 3, 1943, an express train from Bombay (today: Mumbai ) to Calcutta (today: Kolkata) collided with a freight train near the city , and two passenger cars and the dining car were smashed. 50 people died and 100 were also injured.
In addition, a trunk road runs through the city, which leads to Nagpur in the east and splits in the west towards Malegaon and Indore .
