Jalgaon ( Marathi : जळगाव , Jaḷgāv ) is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra with around 460,000 inhabitants (2001 census). It is the administrative seat of the Jalgaon district and is located about 400 kilometers northeast of Mumbai and 250 kilometers west of Nagpur on the Tapti River and the northern edge of the Deccan Plateau.

history

Sugar , vegetable oil and silk are other important products of the region. The city is of tourist importance due to the Ajanta Caves, 60 km away . Shopping centers, North Maharashtra University buildings and hospitals complement the city's good infrastructure.

The city is located on major railway lines to Mumbai , Nagpur and Delhi and on National Highway 6 from Surat to Kolkata . In 2012 an airport was opened near the city.
