Albert Burger (born May 8, 1955 in Kranzegg ) is a former German ski racer and today's trainer . In the second half of the 1970s and early 1980s, he was one of the best giant slalom riders in his country. In 1976, Burger became German champion in giant slalom, took part in two Olympic Games and twice in World Championships . In the Ski World Cup , he was among the top ten six times.

biography

Burger got his first points in the World Cup on March 2, 1975 with a tenth place in the giant slalom on Mount Garibaldi . At the beginning of the 1975/76 season he came in eighth place in Madonna di Campiglio . In his first major event, the 1976 Winter Olympic Games in Innsbruck , he reached the giant slalom as the best German tenth place and in the slalom, he was ranked 15th on March 5, 1976 he achieved his best World Cup result ever when he in the giant slalom in Copper Mountain fifth Reached place. With another top ten result in Mont Sainte-Anne , he came twelfth in the Giant Slalom World Cup . In the winter of 1976 he was also German champion in this discipline.

In the next two seasons, Burger never made it into the top ten in the World Cup. At the 1978 World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he finished 19th in the giant slalom, again as the best German. After almost three years without points, Burger returned to the World Cup points on January 7, 1979, finishing ninth in the giant slalom in Courchevel . In the 1979/80 season his best result was sixth place in the giant slalom in Adelboden . At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , he came 20th in giant slalom, but in slalom he was eliminated in the second round.

At the end of the 1980/81 season, Burger won World Cup points for the last time by finishing 12th in the giant slalom in Laax . The following winter he was no longer in the top 15. At his last major event, the 1982 World Cup in Schladming , he was already out of the first round of the giant slalom. After the 1981/82 season, Burger ended his active career. Today he is part of the coaching staff of the German Ski Association . He is an alpine trainer on the customs ski team's coaching staff .
