biography

Dupont-Willemin was a lawyer from 1926 and a member of the Geneva City Council from 1935 to 1939 ; He was also a member of the Grand Council (1930–1957) and from 1935 to 1939 Vice President of the Cantonal Parliament , where he dealt with school issues and women's suffrage , among other things . From 1970 he was a member and then President of the Court of Cassation of the Canton of Geneva .

In 1932 the Social Democrats protested shortly after the merger of the Plainpalais and Geneva municipalities (1931) when the Union party brought national public charges against the leaders of the Geneva Social Democrats Léon Nicole and Jacques Dicker . According to the agreement of the authorities, the meeting of the Union nationale took place in the community hall of Plainpalais on November 9, 1932 , rather than in Victoria Hall , where the far right party usually met. Albert Dupont (Willemin), Léon Nicole's lawyer, was indicted alongside Léon Nicole and 16 other left-wing protesters following the riots in Geneva in which Swiss army recruits shot the crowd. Dupont (Willemin) and 10 of the 18 defendants were acquitted in 1933 by the federal jury. At the trial before the Bundenassisen, his father-in-law, the lawyer Jacques Louis Willemin, also appeared as a defense attorney. This had been mayor of Plainpalais (1910-1922).

Albert Dupont (Willemin) was vice-president of the Association des amis de l'Espagne républicaine (Association of Friends of Republican Spain). It was an anti-fascist aid association that was established in Geneva on September 15, 1936, shortly after the start of the Spanish Civil War .

In 1939 after the split in the Geneva Social Democratic Party due to the disagreement over the Hitler-Stalin pact , Dupont-Willemin left Léon Nicole's party to join André Oltramare and Charles Rosselet's party. This party belonged to the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland , which disapproved of the German-Soviet non-aggression pact .

Dupont-Willemin was Consul of Guatemala in Geneva. From 1957 to 1958 he was President of the Geneva Bar Association . In addition to Raymond Nicolet and René Floriot , he defended Pierre Jaccoud in the Jaccoud affair .

He was Vice President of the Boards of Directors of the Services Industriels de Genève and the Comédie de Genève . Dupont-Willemin was also a member of the Swiss Americanist Society and Vice President of the Genève-Plage Association .

Albert Dupont married Elena Willemin. She was the daughter of Jacques Louis Willemin and Elena Ibáñez de Ibero. This was the daughter of Carlos Ibáñez de Ibero . Albert Dupont-Willemin (1903–1977) was the father of Albert-Louis Dupont-Willemin (1934 -).
