Alberto Pacher (born August 27, 1956 in Trento ) is an Italian politician of the Partito Democratico .

Pacher grew up in the San Giuseppe district of Trento. After a degree in sociology , he specialized in Milan on psychotherapy . He worked for the Servizio per le Tossicodipendenze - SERT (Italian for “drug addiction service”) for 15 years . He also worked as a freelance psychologist.

In 1990 he began his political career as a councilor in Trento and held this position until 1993, when he was appointed councilor for social policy. From 1995 he also held the office of Vice Mayor. When Lorenzo Dellai resigned on October 2, 1998, he became mayor of Trento.

In May 1999, with the support of a center-left coalition, he was confirmed in office in the first ballot with 69.33% of the preferential votes. In the municipal elections of May 8, 2005 he was re-elected - again in the first ballot - with 64.33% of the preferential vote. He held this until shortly before the regional elections. On October 25, 2008, he became the most elected candidate (over 15,000 preferential votes) of the regional council. He also held the office of party secretary of the Partito Democratico del Trentino from June 8, 2008 .

When Lorenzo Dellai resigned as President of the Autonomous Province of Trento on December 29, 2012 in order to be able to participate in the parliamentary elections in Rome , Pacher took over the official business as his deputy. As a result, he was also President of the Regional Government of Trentino-South Tyrol from 2013 to 2014 at the level of the Autonomous Region of Trentino-South Tyrol .
