Albrecht Ubbo Paulus Anton Oepke (born September 10, 1881 in Arle , East Frisia , †  December 10, 1955 in Leipzig ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

The son of a pastor studied Oepke 1900 at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Erlangen and at the Georg-August University Göttingen , theology . During his studies he became a member of the Erlanger and then the Göttingen Wingolfs . After his theological exams in Hanover, he got his first job at Borkum in 1907 . In 1908 he came to Völlen ( Leer district ), where he took over the pastoral office in 1909. From 1914 he worked at the mission seminar in Leipzig and from 1920 to 1922 published the Evangelical Lutheran Mission Journal. In 1919 he received his doctorate at the theological faculty of the University of Leipzig , where he worked as an associate professor from 1922 and in 1954 received a chair for the New Testament .

Services

During the National Socialist dictatorship, Oepke was a member of the District Council of the Confessing Church . In September 1933 he signed the declaration “New Testament and Racial Issues” against the adoption of the Aryan paragraph in church service law. After 1945 he was involved in the rebuilding of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saxony , including as chairman of the church leadership and member of the regional synod .

His most important work concerned research on the apostle Paul .
