Aldo Mongiano

Aldo Mongiano IMC (born November 1, 1919 in Pontestura , Alessandria province ; † April 15, 2020 in Moncalvo , Asti province ) was an Italian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Roraima in Brazil.

Life

Aldo Mongiano joined the religious order of Consolata Missionaries and was ordained a priest on June 3, 1943 . He worked first as a missionary in Africa and later in Latin America.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 14, 1975 as Prelate of Roraima and Titular Bishop of Nasai . The bishop of Casale Monferrato , Carlo Cavalla , ordained him episcopal on October 5th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Giuseppe Angrisani , former bishop of Casale Monferrato and Luigi Bettazzi , bishop of Ivrea . On May 26, 1978, he renounced his titular seat Nasai due to the changed allocation guidelines. After the territorial prelature had been raised to the diocese of Roraima on October 16, 1979 , Pope John Paul II appointed him on December 4 of the same year as its first diocesan bishop .

On June 26, 1996, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. Mongiano returned to Italy and was active in the pastoral work of the Archdiocese of Turin . He lived in his Piedmontese hometown of Pontestura and most recently in the old people's residence Villa Serena in Moncalvo in the province of Asti. He died of a fall at the age of 100.
