The diocese of Roraima ( Latin Dioecesis Roraimensis , Portuguese Diocese de Roraima ) is a Roman Catholic diocese in Brazil with its seat in Boa Vista in the state of Roraima , whose territory it includes.

history

The diocese of Roraima was on August 30, 1944 by Pope Pius XII. built as the territorial prelature Rio Branco and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará as a suffragan . On February 16, 1952, it moved to the newly established ecclesiastical province of Manaus. On April 29, 1963, the Territorial Prelature Rio Branco was renamed Territorial Prelature Roraima and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Manaus as a suffragan.

The territorial prelature of Roraima was raised to a diocese on October 16, 1979 by Pope John Paul II .
