Alemão , real name Ricardo Rogério de Brito (born November 22, 1961 in Lavras , Minas Gerais ), is a former Brazilian soccer player . He played in the position of midfielder .

stage name

Because of his light skin color and his blond hair, he was nicknamed "Alemão" (German) by friends.

Career

Alemão began his career in 1980 with a club in his hometown of Lavras. A year later he played for Botafogo Rio de Janeiro . After six years he moved to the traditional Spanish club Atlético Madrid in 1987 . A year later he left Madrid to play in Italy for SSC Napoli . During this time, Diego Maradona and his compatriot Careca were other world stars with the southern Italian club. In 1992 Alemão signed a contract with Atalanta Bergamo . He ended his career at the age of 35 with Volta Redonda FC in his native Brazil.

National team

He played 39 times for the Brazilian national soccer team and took part in the soccer world championships of 1986 in Mexico and 1990 in Italy. In Mexico he was a regular for Brazil and played in every game. He played in a 1-3-4-2 formation alongside central midfielder Socrates on the far right. Brazil reached the quarter-finals with four clean sheets, where they met France. That game was decided on penalties, with Alemao converting a penalty for Brazil. However, Brazil was eliminated. At the World Cup in Italy, Brazil appeared with a comparable line-up. Here Alemao played in the same position this time alongside Carlos Dunga . Here, too, he was a regular player and played in all of Brazil's games. Alemão scored a total of six international goals for Brazil.
