Alexander "Alex" Rose (born November 17, 1991 in West Branch ) is a Samoan shot putter , discus and hammer thrower of American origin who has been authorized to start in Samoa since 2012.

Athletic career

Alex Rose gained his first international experience at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Moncton , where he was eliminated from the qualifying round for the USA with 53.46 m. Two years later he won the gold medals for Samoa in discus and hammer throw at the Oceania Championships in Cairns . At the 2013 championships in Papeete , he won gold in the shot put, with the discus and the hammer. In the discus throw he took part in the Summer Universiade in Kazan and took seventh place in the final with 58.64 m. He also qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , where he was eliminated with 56.19 m in the qualifying round. Two years later, at the Oceania Championships in Cairns, he again won gold with the ball and in the discus throw, as well as silver with the hammer. He also won the discus at the Pacific Games in Port Moresby and won silver with the hammer and the ball. He again took part in the World Championships in Beijing , but failed this time with 59.07 m in the first round .

In 2016 he also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated with 57.24 m in the qualification . Also in 2017 he won gold with the discus at the Oceania Championships in Suva and also took part in the World Championships in London , where he was once again unable to qualify for the final . In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and finished eighth in the discus throw with 59.56 m.

Rose is a graduate of Central Michigan University .
