Aleksandr Samokutyayev ( Russian Александр Михайлович Самокутяев * 13. March 1970 in Penza , Oblast Penza , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian cosmonaut .

Military training

Samokutjajew graduated from the Chernihiv pilot school in 1992 as a pilot engineer and flew Wilga 35A , L-13 Blanik , Aero L-39 and Sukhoi Su-24 . He served the Russian Air Force in the Far East military district and can prove 680 flight hours and 250 parachute jumps . His other skills include qualified diving . He was also deputy squadron commander and currently holds the rank of Retired Colonel in the Russian Air Force . From 1998 to 2000 he studied at the Gagarin Military Academy of the Air Force in Monino , after which he was appointed group leader at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center .

Astronaut activity

On May 29, 2003 Samokutjajew was selected as a candidate for the cosmonaut training center, and he completed his basic cosmonaut training in June 2005 with distinction. Extended ISS training took place until November 2008. Since then he has been in training for a long-term stay on the International Space Station , u. a. he was a substitute for Alexander Skworzow as commander of the Soyuz TMA-18 spacecraft to the ISS.

Samokutjajew was a flight engineer on Expeditions 27 and 28 . It took off on April 4, 2011 (local time in Baikonur : April 5) together with Andrei Borissenko and Ronald Garan as commander of the Soyuz TMA-21 spacecraft and landed again on September 16, 2011.

Samokutjajew was nominated as a flight engineer for ISS expeditions 41 and 42 . As commander of the Soyuz TMA-14M spacecraft , he flew to the International Space Station on September 25, 2014. The return to earth took place on March 12, 2015.

For health reasons, Samokutjajew was released from the Russian cosmonaut corps on April 21, 2017.

Alexander Samokutjajew is married and has one daughter. His hobbies include cars , Canadian ice hockey, and traveling .
