Belinski ( Russian Бели́нский , until 1948 Tschembar / Чемба́р ) is a small town in Penza Oblast ( Russia ) with 8,565 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the western edge of the Volga plateau about 130 km west of the oblast capital Penza at the union of the rivers Großer Chembar and Kleiner Chembar to form the Chembar in the Don river system .
Belinski is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1713 when a fortification was built here on the site of the village of Dmitrijewskoje or Maly Chembar . In 1780 the place was given city rights under the name of Chembar - after the river.
In 1948 it was renamed after the literary critic and philosopher Wissarion Belinsky , who spent his youth here.

Culture and sights
A number of buildings from the 19th century have been preserved in Belinsky, including the buildings of the city duma , the zemstvo administration and the boys' college.
In addition to the local history museum, there is a Belinski museum in the family's former home and the educational establishment .
17 kilometers northeast of the city, near today's village Lermontowo, is the former Tarchany estate of J. Arsenjewa, the grandmother of the poet Mikhail Lermontow , where he spent his youth and began to write.
In addition, the Morosow Dendrarium ( Morosowski dendrari ) is located in the Rajon , in which exotic trees and bushes were planted in the 19th century.
economy
There is an electrotechnical factory in Belinsky, as well as a food processing plant. Agriculture is practiced in the area.
