history

City festival in Saretschny 2004

The city of Saretschny (literally "behind the river") was founded in 1958 when a city district ( Rajon ) was spun off from Penza.

The occasion was the construction of a factory to manufacture equipment for the nuclear weapons industry . Since this production was kept top secret, Saretschny received the status of a closed city in 1962, which is not open to the public and was originally not shown on maps.

From 1962 the place had the code name Pensa-19 , since 1992 it has been called Saretschny again.
