history

A place in the place of today's settlement was mentioned for the first time in 1621, but the founding year is 1671, when a church was built in the local village of Osjory and the place was subsequently referred to as Nikolskoje after the name of the church . In 1725 the village was renamed Cherkasskoye after it had been acquired by the Kabardian princely family with the Russified name Bekowitsch-Cherkassky. In 1745 it was given its current name, after the other part of the family name.

In the course of the 19th century, Bekowo developed into a locally important economic center with a few smaller factories and rail links. It became the administrative seat of a Volost des Ujesds Serdobsk of the Saratov governorate .

On July 16, 1928, Bekowo became the seat of a newly created Rajons named after him. In 1959 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement. In 1985 the nearby large village of Naryschkino was incorporated.
