Alexander Oppler (born February 10, 1869 in Hanover , † March 18, 1937 in Berlin ) was a German sculptor who u. a. became known for his portrait busts .
Life

Oppler was a member of the Munich and Berlin Secession .
As an early member of the German Association of Artists , Alexander Oppler participated in its first exhibition, made possible by the secessionists, in the Royal Exhibition Building on Königplatz in Munich in 1904 . He was represented there with two plaster sculptures and a marble bust. His portrait bust of André Derain is one of the more well-known works today . For himself, a fountain on Olivaer Platz in Berlin was the culmination of his life's work; it was destroyed by the National Socialists.
Alexander Oppler was given an honorary grave in the Lichterfelde Park Cemetery in Berlin-Lichterfelde , in which his older brother Ernst Oppler and Alexander Oppler's wife Alice were buried before him. A sculpture he created for the grave monument has been lost.
